Mateen Lander Limited is a textile waste management and recycling company addressing Nigeria’s growing textile waste challenge through practical, end-to-end circular solutions. The company operates at the last mile of the textile value chain, intercepting discarded textiles before disposal and converting them into usable material streams.
Its core operations include the collection and recovery of post-production and post-consumer textiles, sorting and material preparation, and basic processing such as shredding and material conditioning to enable reuse, recycling, and product development. Mateen Lander supplies recovered textiles in different forms, including mixed or composition-specific materials, based on client requirements and intended applications.
Beyond material supply, the company also develops products and applications from recovered textiles, demonstrating viable pathways for transforming low-value textile waste into functional outputs. Through these integrated activities, Mateen Lander supports waste diversion, material circularity, and the development of reliable textile recycling and reuse infrastructure within Nigeria.
Mateen Lander’s social impact and community capacity-building activities are delivered through the Mateen Lander Impact Foundation, which leads inclusion and livelihood-focused interventions aligned with the company’s circular operations.
“Mateen Lander’s key circular economy achievement is building an end-to-end textile material recovery and reuse system that connects communities, innovators, and institutions. Through our material recovery partnership with the Office of the Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy (Lagos State), we have recovered over 10 tons of post-consumer textile waste from grassroots communities, diverting it from landfill while incentivising participation and behaviour change.
We also work directly with tailoring communities, training them to segregate and manage textile offcuts responsibly. This intervention has led to measurable behavioural change, with many artisans now separating textile waste from general waste streams.
Beyond recovery, Mateen Lander bridges the gap between discarded textiles and innovation. We process textile waste into usable raw materials for designers, brands, and researchers, including supplying sorted textiles to circular fashion innovators and supporting ND and HND final-year students at Yaba College of Technology to convert textile waste into fibres for product development. This model embeds circularity across waste management, skills development, youth engagement, and market-ready innovation.
We have been able to demonstrates : collection → processing → reuse → skills → innovation.”
