“At Eden Whole Foods, our business model is built on circular principles: eliminating waste, circulating indigenous resources, and regenerating natural systems while nourishing the planet.
Post-harvest loss is a major challenge in African agriculture, leading to significant food waste and economic loss. Simultaneously, malnutrition persists in many communities. We see this not as waste, but as a misallocation of resources.
Our Circular solution is to employ innovative food technology to process and package high-value superfoods from crops that might otherwise spoil. This transforms “”lost”” produce into 100% natural, traceable products.
We focus exclusively on indigenous African crops that are often resilient and require fewer external inputs, promoting biodiversity and working in harmony with local ecosystems. The end product is circulated back into the local community and diaspora markets, providing health-conscious consumers with traceable, healthy options, directly supporting our mission to reduce malnutrition in African children and families.
Eden Whole Foods is committed to demonstrating that economic success and social impact can be achieved through a business model that is inherently regenerative by design.”
Eden Whole Foods launched a circular initiative that transformed post-harvest sweet potato waste—previously lost to spoilage and pests—into a shelf-stable, high-value nutritional powder. We successfully upcycled a significant waste stream by implementing processing technology, effectively managing 100% of the harvest from our partner network of farmers.
This had a dual impact:
Environmental/Economic: We eliminated farm-level losses for sweet potatoes (yielding 2.5 tons per acre every 90 days), extending product shelf life from 2 weeks to 12 months and allowing for export to the UK and US.
Social/Nutritional: By processing nutritious white sweet potatoes, we secured NAFDAC and USFDA approvals to deliver highly nutritious food options that actively combat malnutrition in children and pregnant women locally and globally, demonstrating a quantifiable commitment to regenerative food systems.
